Line up for tonight: Steve Arie on Bass & vocals, Steve Brien on guitar
Steve Arié grew up in Sydney and was a relatively late starter. At the University of New South Wales (where he graduated in 1986 with a BA In psychology) Steve met and fell in love with the double bass. After graduating steve became involved in the Sydney jazz scene and taught himself the double bass.
Since that time Steve has had enormous experience playing all styles of music. From traditional through to modern jazz, classical, pop, funk, rock.. His strength and versatility as a bass player has earned him places in such popular Australian bands as D.I.G. and Ignatius Jones and Pardon Me Boys.
He has played with Australian Jazz Greats Dale Barlow, Bernie McGann, Ten Part Invention, Errol Buddle, George Washingmachine and is a regular member of Wanderlust. Steve has also performed with top forty artists including Frank Bennett, Martin Plaza and Gyan as well as World Music groups MARA and The Real Mexico and classical groups The Northern Chamber Orchestra and the Sydney Youth Orchestra.
In 2003 Steve performed in the acclaimed theatre production Birth of the Cool for the Sydney Festival. Birth Of The Cool enjoyed subsequent sell-out seasons at the Seymour Centre and Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2005, and in 2006 also travelled to Germany to perform at the theatre festival, Ruhrfestspiele.
In 2004 Steve toured the USA with Ten Part Invention, performing at the prestigious Chicago Jazz Festival, The Kennedy Centre for Performing Arts and various venues around the country.
Steve also plays guitarron (Mexican bass), electric bass, saxophone, flute and guitar.
